Toddler Sense South Tyneside

Welcome to Toddler Sense South Tyneside

Our Multi-Award winning classes are back in September!

We're so excited to be able to resume our venue classes and what makes it even more exciting is that we will be in our very own building - the Baby Sensory & Toddler Sense WOW Centre based in Monkwearmouth, Sunderland. The WOW Centre is the home for our Hello Baby, Baby Sensory and Toddler Sense programmes.

In order to make everything run as smoothly and as safely as possible can you please read the following information carefully BEFORE YOU BOOK A PLACE on the Autumn term.

Class sizes have been significantly reduced in order to give everyone enough space and therefore there will be a maximum of 7 parents/toddlers per class.  Only one parent/carer may accompany each child so there can be no extra visitors for the time being.  Younger siblings under 12 months may accompany you however they must stay with you at all times (we recommend the use of a sling).

Whilst adults need to maintain a safe distance away from each other as much as possible, it is unrealistic to expect toddlers to socially distance from each other.  Parents will do their best to encourage their little one to keep a safe distance from others but by booking a class you are doing so on the understanding that there is a high probability that other children may be in close contact with you and/or your child.

Face coverings are optional. Toddler Sense classes are physical and active and therefore fall under the list of government approved scenarios where face coverings are not required.

The set up will be a little different to what you are used to for a while, so, until we can get back to normal, the sessions will be 45 minutes and will consist of:

  1. 20 minutes of Adventure play time - this is free flow play which the children can explore as soon as they enter the class.  For now, I will only be placing out low-level balance equipment in an obstacle course type fashion.  I have removed ball pools, bouncy castles and other hard to clean resources.  These will be gradually reintroduced over time. I will be posting pictures/videos on my Facebook page in due course in order to help you manage your little ones expectations of the class, especially if they have been to Toddler Sense before, as it will look a little different to them.
  2. 5-minute tidy up of the equipment where we store it safely to one side.  You will be asked to collect a star mat and choose an area on the blue matted area to sit on.  There will be markers on the floor to signpost you (these are spaced 2m apart).   You will also need to collect your individual tray of resources which will contain everything you need for the activities.  This will prevent the sharing of the equipment.
  3. 20 minutes of Structured Activities – each week introduces a new theme. I lead the activities with your little one and we encourage you to get involved too. We dance, sing and play using a huge array of different resources. We encourage the use of our imaginations a lot at Toddler Sense as we go on different adventures with Tod, our class mascot.  There will be limited GROUP ACTIVITIES due to the layout of the mats which makes it difficult to use the various cloths and resources which we hold together for e.g. parachutes, sensory canopies, play-bands etc.  I will try my best not to exclude these activities altogether though as I know the sheer delight they bring your little one (and you!). I will endeavour to develop a safe way of reintroducing these activities and is still a work in progress.

All props, mats and touch points will be thoroughly cleaned in between sessions.  Hand sanitiser will be available at the entrance and various other points around the building.  Absolutely everything (and I mean everything - toilets, sinks, floors, walls, ceilings, lights, even the boiler!) is brand new and squeaky clean!

The address is: WOW Centre, 2 Dundas Street, Monkwearmouth, Sunderland, SR6 0AY. There is a free small car park opposite and free street parking on Dundas Street, however, both of these are usually very busy so please allow yourself enough time to find another parking space and walk to the Centre.  You may park for free in the residential streets beside the Centre after 10am (permits restrict you from parking there before 10am).  Parking is also available on Thomas Street North and Sunderland Retail Park just a few mins walk away.  If you arrive on foot, there is a small buggy park available in the WOW Centre entrance area. You may need to fold up your pram/pushchair.

Once booked onto a class this will become your 'bubble' for the duration of the term and it will not be possible for you to attend other sessions should you miss your own class that week due to appointments, holidays, sickness etc.

In the event of a local lockdown or if the WOW Centre needs to close temporarily because someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 has listed the class venue as a place they visited recently, some or all of the remaining sessions in the term will be provided either in a live Zoom session or a pre-recorded video. Classes cannot be refunded or rolled over to subsequent terms.

Your information would also need to be shared with the NHS Test & Trace system. NHS Test and Trace will handle all data according to the highest ethical and security standards and ensure it is used only for the purposes of protecting public health, including minimising the transmission of COVID-19.

Our multi-award winning activity programme introduces children aged 13 months to 4 years, to a whole new world of adventure.

The activities are designed to keep children busy, active, and stimulated by offering them a magical, multi-adventure experience in a safe and happy environment. Children are hugely curious and have great imagination. At Toddler Sense we build and expand on this by providing different fun filled activities each and every week!!
